AAs part of the Jubilee Line Project, Mulalley was
instructed to undertake the design and construction of a new
specialist structure to house a high power lathe. This specialist
lathe corrects and re-aligns the train wheels of the new Jubilee
Line rolling stock to reduce wear and tear and increase their
working life.
This facility required us to undertake deep
excavations and construct a complicated sub-structure and support
areas and on completion of the building directly connect the
railway to the LUL network to enable train access.
This new facility was constructed on a plot in the
middle of the London Underground Neasdon Depot. The Depot operated
24 hours a day and it was critical that our works did not obstruct
either the ongoing train service or the nightime deliveries of
materials to the ongoing JLP.
Our deep excavation (over 6 meters) was undertaken
within 3 meters of a main line where thousands of rail users
passed each day and required a detailed safety case and robust
temporary works.
