This
major refurbishment of two listed tower blocks (designed by Sir
Denys Lasdun) in the East End of London required specific skills
and both technical and resident liaison expertise.
These blocks suffered from major structural
failures requiring invasive repairs and works to upgrade
insulation levels to meet modern standards and at the same time
still satisfy the stringent requirements of English Heritage.
Mulalley were selected after a rigorous interview as the best
contractors to meet these requirements.
Liasing closely with English Heritage we provided
bespoke solutions to the serious construction problems we
encountered but the project still proceeded on programme and was
completed to an excellent standard. So pleased were English
Heritage with the design solution Mulalley provided they
commissioned a video to record the entire process. The buildings
are now a great testimony to the project team and demonstrate that
constructive and cost effective solutions are possible to meet the
requirements of these unique parts of housing history.
A large part of the success of this project was
due to the great efforts of our Resident Liaison officers who
worked closely with the community to minimise the disruption to
their homes and enabled this project to proceed as quickly and
harmoniously as possible.
The Mulalley Project Team were delighted to be
awarded a Bronze Considerate Constructors award, with the judges
citing that we had "developed a very impressive model for
working around residents, the project demonstrated this in
practice".
