In 2007 Mulalley were awarded the contract for the
construction of a new 3-storey convent in Canning Town for the
nuns of the order of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. The
project is now completed and is a stunning facility.
Of traditional brick/block cavity wall
construction on piled foundations it has a cut and pitched roof
structure with pre cast quoins and panels to enhance the exterior.
The building provides individual ensuite bedrooms, a chapel and
general living quarters including community rooms and a large
kitchen fitted to commercial standards.
The works were completed in a 52-week period
including large paved areas and attractive communal gardens
The convent was built on a vacant site adjacent to
an existing church and in close proximity of two local schools so
careful logistics management and liaison with the schools was
essential to minimise disruption and ensure the safety of the
students throughout the works.
