Melbourne Court, Chelmsford's only high-rise block
(15 storey) is being refurbished and reclad to provide a high
level of accommodation for the residents in Chelmsford.
This prestigious £6.8m scheme for Chelmer Housing
Partnership started on site in summer 2007. Built in 1962,
Melbourne Court is a significant part of the Chelmsford landscape
and the refurbishment and redevelopment of this site in North
Chelmsford will form part of the £10m regeneration of this area
of North Chelmsford.
The works include the refurbishment of the
existing 54 properties in the tower block. To enable these
extensive works to be undertaken the residents have been decanted
with a number electing to return to the block following the works.
28 new homes will also be built in the vicinity creating a new
podium around the existing block and a new neighbourhood centre
will be created to provide services for the community. Following
the building work the whole area around the development will be
landscaped to a high standard.
Mulalley were appointed following a rigorous
selection process under the EU guidelines. From 20 expressions of
interest submitted from stiff competition Mulalley were one of 4
companies shortlisted and finally were selected as the most
experienced and competitive.
Work on the project started in June with an
anticipated completion of 18 months.
“I’m looking forward to working with a
contractor with Mulalley's experience on this exciting project.
They are offering us value for money, efficiency and
sustainability, and will be joining a team committed to delivering
this unique regeneration project.” David Cotterill - CHP’s
Business Development Manager.
