This project was a pilot scheme undertaken on
behalf of Waltham Forest Council to introduce environmental
improvements to their housing stock refurbishment and thereby
obtain reduced energy expenditure. The energy levels are monitored
so potential savings can be identified from utilising this new
technology.
The building was first stripped to the core and
new high-density insulation fixed to all internal walls, floors
and ceilings. The insulation was a mixture of insulated dry lining
and 250mm of recycled paper and lambs wool in the loft. Solar
heating panels, heat exchangers and a grey water system (including
rainwater recovery) were also installed.
All materials removed were assessed for recycling
purposes. The building is now to be monitored for the next three
years to identify cost and energy savings.
