This project was the conversion of a former
industrial unit adjacent to an existing medical centre to form new
support and care facilities. As part of the project new link
corridors were constructed to the existing operating theatres and
the sterilisation and IAP areas.
This was a fast track construction (16 weeks
including design and build for all M&E works). Numerous design
changes were absorbed during the contract including the expansion
of medical gas, vacuum and nurse call systems and layout changes
to accommodate Healthcare Commission Requirements
For the majority of the project, the new wards and
the existing operational areas were separated requiring stringent
noise and dust controls and carefully co-ordinated service shut
downs. The break-through between the new wards and the existing
theatres was undertaken in an intense 3 week period of day, night
and evening work to allow minimal shut-down of the operating
theatres.
