Homes for Haringey kicked off the start of its decent homes improvement programme at an official ceremony at Tottenham Hotspurs football ground this week
Residents joined members of the board, the council, and the decent homes contractor partners to formally sign the Strategic Alliance Agreement. The Agreement sets out how the partners will work together in delivering the £230 million programme across the borough.
Alongside Eamon O’Malley of Mulalley & Co were Cllr George Meehan, leader of the council, Cllr Isidoros Diakides, cabinet member for housing services and Mike Jones, Chair of the Board.
Mulalley, together with the other partners, Wates Construction, Lovell Partnership and Apollo, will carry out refurbishment work including new kitchens, bathrooms and electrical works across the borough. Up to 500 surveys have already been carried out and the programme is expected to start in April 2008.
The four construction consultants - Potter Raper Partnership, Ridge & Partners, John Rowan & Partners and Rider Levett Bucknall - who will oversee the contractors work were also at the event.
Mike Jones thanked the residents for their work during the procurement process especially in the selection of the partners.
Everything is now in place so we just need to get started on upgrading our residents homes. We will be going into tenants homes so we have to make sure they feel involved and able to have an input. Delivering the decent homes programme in Haringey will have a positive impact for everyone involved.
Mike Jones, Chair of the Board
As a resident I’m very pleased that I became involved and was able to be a voice for local people. I will be watching the process very carefully to see that each household receives the highest standard of work and that every resident’s property is completed to a high standard.
Yvonne Denny, local tenant and procurement panelist
