This contract consisted of the internal
refurbishment of 269 public housing units in a mainly
residential area. The internal refurbishment comprised the
replacement of bathrooms and kitchens. Approximately half
of the units had windows and external doors replaced, too.
All of the work was carried out in a 'live' environment. A
full time Resident Liaison Officer was appointed and a
mechanism to communicate with the residents was
established prior to the project commencement. Strict
timetables and notice periods for work were given and
adhered to. The consideration shown by this team is
amplified by their care in accommodating several
vulnerable residents whose flats were identified early to
allow additional precautions to be taken to avoid
disturbance. The site team also demonstrated the caring
side of its nature by arranging bingo and 'fun' evenings
for residents. The client, Lewisham Homes, elaborated:
"Mulalley's site management team is strong with clear
guidelines and training facilities in place to ensure all
personnel are properly inducted and understand their high
expectations in terms of conduct whilst working in
occupied dwellings. Inductions include tool box talks
covering environmental awareness and good working
practice. Reminder posters showing ways of protecting the
environment are displayed on site and this information is
also readily available in picture format for those who do
not have English as their first language". An
excellent attitude was displayed on this contract. The
site team deserves much credit for its efforts.
