This project comprised the replacement of
bathrooms and kitchens to over 1300 local authority
properties, mostly situated on, or near to, the large
residential Racecourse Estate in Northolt, north west
London. From the outset, the contractor made every effort
to ensure that the project did not unduly interfere with
the lives of the residents of the estate. To this end,
introductory letters and information packs were issued to
the tenants and a Resident Liaison Officer ensured that
ongoing communications were maintained on a daily basis.
The contractor was also aware of the specific needs of the
more vulnerable residents and adapted procedures to suit
their requirements. Deliveries were brought to the main
storage compound and taken to the satellite compound on a
'just in time' basis to avoid the movement of heavy
lorries on the estate. The contractor operated an
excellent environmental and waste management policy,
achieving an 85-90% level of recycling. The site compound
facilities were clean and well maintained. A commitment to
employing local labour and commendable charitable
involvements with the local residents and school mark this
project out as an example of considerate construction at
its best.
