"This was a project to bring 258
flats and houses to decent homes standard. The work
included new kitchens, bathrooms, some rewiring and
central heating. The site was located in a mainly
residential area of East London, and all work was carried
out with residents in occupation. The residents'
requirements were paramount to the working of their
properties. A flexible approach was adopted from the
initial stages of the project. Three Resident Liaison
Officers ensured the residents' needs were catered for,
with 14 and 7 day notices being issued prior to work
commencing, along with regular evening surgeries. A
"Have I been Considerate?" leaflet was handed to
all residents. This highlighted the most considerate
operatives, who were then eligible for the projects
monthly reward scheme. The client, Poplar HARCA, said that
the Leopold Area Residents' Board "wholeheartedly
supported the contractor being considered for an
award." A high standard of compliance was maintained
throughout all categories of the Considerate Constructors
Schemes Code of Considerate Practice. The site team
demonstrated a professional attitude, respect for people
and the safety and welfare of all associated with this
project."
