Judges Comments:
"This project involved repairs and
renewals on an inner city council housing estate in
London. The substantial works were carried out around
residents who continued to live in their homes.
There was a very close and pro-active
working relationship between residents and the site
manager and the full-time resident liaison officer.
Residents had access to a well equipped respite room which
allowed them to vacate their homes for short periods
should they wish. When lifts were taken out of service
residents received help with shopping and push chairs.
Noisy work was carried out during two daily window periods
and there was no weekend working.
All waste was segregated and there was
strong emphasis on making the site compound and hoarding
as attractive as possible. High priority was given to
developing relationships with local schools, and this
included carrying out minor works on their behalf.
The emphasis on good quality resident
relationships ranged from extensive one-to-one working to
a company sponsored Halloween party in a local community
centre.
This contractor has developed a very
impressive model for working around residents, and the
project demonstrated this in practice."
