"The
project involved new windows and electrics including new
mains, doors, loft works etc to four blocks of flats in a
residential estate on the outskirts of London. The
residents were fully informed through a pre-start meeting,
a "pilot flat", regular notices, letters and a
site-specific newsletter. The Site Manager and the RLO
were also in constant verbal contact with the residents
and neighbours. The local authority housing team has
separately commended the RLO for his excellent
communications with residents.
The Site Manager referred to the
operatives and staff as "working guests". The
level of trust built up was such that the site often
"minded" residents keys to help the works
progress smoothly. When the mains power was off for a
short time in an agreed shut down period, takeaway meals
and drinks were offered to those affected.
The site and surroundings were kept very
clean and skips used were lidded and lockable. Our monitor
met both the Senior Clerk and Clerk of Works during his
visit and both were full of praise for the well-run site
operations."
