The
work involved roof and window replacements and general
repairs to twelve blocks of local authority property with
the 500 tenants remaining in occupation. Intensive liaison
was carried out with tenants before and during the
contract led by a senior tenant liaison officer with close
involvement by the project manager. Daily meetings with
the chair of the tenants association enabled any problems
to be quickly dealt with and the tenant respite room
provided in the compound was a useful and valued facility.
The
contractor had made exceptional efforts to involve the
wider community including the police, a neighbouring
school and a local authority sponsored youth work
experience organisation. Great emphasis was placed on
tenant security and blocks occupied by older people were
accessed by machines to avoid the use of scaffolding.
Excellent site management achieved a very clean and tidy
site with very responsive and sensitive working practices.
A textbook example of how to undertake this kind of
contract.
